If you are going through orthodontic treatment, you will find that the wax given to you at the initial placement of your braces will come in handy. Here are some common examples of when to use wax:
1. A Broken or Poking Wire- Place wax on the poking wire to alleviate the discomfort. If using wax does not help, you can use a small fingernail clipper to clip the wire behind the last tooth to which it is securely fastened.
2. A Loose Bracket or Band- If your bracket or band is still attached to the wire; you should leave it in place and put wax on it.
3. A Loose Appliance- Place wax on the part of your appliance that is poking or loose.
If you still experience any discomfort after placing the wax or have any questions or concerns, contact your orthodontic office as soon as possible.
