What is a 3-D Clear Retainer?

Posted On: December 22, 2016

After having braces, you will need a retainer to keep your teeth positioned the same as they are when you have your braces removed. One option is to have a 3-D Clear Retainer made to keep everything in place. The 3-D Clear is made of a clear acrylic (plastic) that covers all surfaces of the teeth; so that little or no movement can occur. Unlike the traditional Hawley retainer (the one with the wire that goes in front of the teeth); which only covers two tooth surfaces. This type of retainer can cause some teeth to shift or relapse. The 3-D Clear Retainer looks similar to an Invisalign tray and lasts for 18 to 24 months. We now offer one free set of 3-D Clear Retainers per year. We want all of our patients to wear their retainers, so take advantage of this new benefit! Wearing retainers is a lifetime commitment if you want your teeth to remain straight. If you don’t currently have a retainer to wear at night, please call our office at 913-469-9191 to make an appointment to get a new 3-D Clear Retainer made. -Betty
